Children are learning a combination of the basic elements of western styled dance class. This includes a little bit of ballet, contemporary and Pop (hip hop) but the energy and personality of the class Is mostly popular movement and music. The ballet or classical portion of class is to introduce “turnout” and foot articulation. Contemporary is to introduce spinal articulation, floor work and dance exploration for students to find their own movement voice. Pop emphasizes rhythm and choreography. We find this is a successful format for young children to learn foundational technique while expressing freedom of movement and choreography
