Maxine Flasher-Düzgüneş is a choreographer, writer, and filmmaker from Mill Valley, CA currently researching the intersections of language and movement through interdisciplinary collaborations with designers, animators, coders, poets, and dancers.Her current project, strikethrough, involves designing a digital platform that enables users to self-generate choreographic scores. Maxine graduated magna cum laude from NYU Tisch with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Minor in English and American Literature, where she was awarded the Rubin Prize for Poetry. At NYU Tisch, she danced in the works of Wayne McGregor, Sidra Bell, Lar Lubovitch, Trisha Brown, NiNi Dongnier | Field Motion, Aaron Samuel Davis, Cari Ann Shim Sham*, and MOAMBU, among others. Maxine has guest performed for Eclipse Dance Theatre (SF), CALI & Co Dance (SF), and Logos Dance Collective (NY). She supplemented her training at SF Conservatory of Dance, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, performing the works of Ohad Naharin, Christian Burns, Amy Seiwert, Eléonore Valère Lachky, and Vittoria De Ferrari Sapetto. Her latest dance film, (v.) – to situate in a particular place, has screened at the SzólóDuó International Dance Festival (Budapest) and Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema (Boulder). In May 2020, she published her first novella, through Eileen with VerbalEyze Press. She works for Marin Poetry Center, The Writers Nest, and Poets House NY in pursuit of bridging dance and poetry making with younger generations.
