RoCo Conservatory Program
RoCo Conservatory Program
Audition will be postponed until further notice.
Starting Fall 2020, we are excited to unveil RoCo’s new Conservatory Program for teens 6th grade and up.
RoCo has had contemporary and urban dance style teams and companies for many years now with tailored training schedules, but we would like to expand these opportunities to our wider student body. We have come to a growth plateau in training dancers interested in a recreational program versus a pre-professional program mixed into the same class.
Students who want an in-depth and diverse dance education that they could take to college and/or beyond will now be included in RoCo’s Conservatory Dance Program. Students enjoying a lighter dance schedule that supplements the many other activities in their lives will be included in RoCo’s Recreational Dance Program.
To be in the Conservatory, a minimum requirement of 2 consecutive years of Contemporary and 1 full year of ballet are required. Conservatory C is a minimum of 4 classes weekly (Ballet & Contemporary), Conservatory B is 6 classes weekly (Ballet, Contemporary & Jazz) and Conservatory A is 7 classes weekly (Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop) including participation in Body Language and/or FX in Motion. Other conservatory benefits include exclusive participation in RoCo’s evening-length Peter and Alice shows, exclusive summer training programs, outside of RoCo performance opportunities and field trips with your classes to professional shows.
The Recreational program will continue to be multi-leveled with up to 3-4 levels of ballet, 5 levels of Contemporary, 2 levels of Jazz, 4 levels of Breaking and 4 levels of Hip Hop. Ballet will be optional at the upper levels of Contemporary. Participation in RoCo Dance OnStage will commence each Fall and Spring session.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
FAQs
Q: What will the placement audition on April 13th and 14th be like and what are the requirements to attend?
A: The placement audition will be an hour and fifteen-minute contemporary dance class taught by RoCo Director, Annie Parr. This class will be used to determine your conservatory level for both our exclusive Conservatory Summer Intensive and our fall program. The times of the audition will likely overlap into a class that you are currently taking. If so, you will be doing the placement class instead of a regular class this day.
Q: Is it possible that I could be moved down in level or cut from the program?
A: No! This placement class will not be to cut anyone from the RoCo program. If you have completed the 2 consecutive years of contemporary and 1 full year of ballet (currently not a ballet class from many years ago) and are in at least 6th grade, then you will be placed into our Conservatory Program. We are simply using this placement class to determine your level. Any class that you will be in next fall will be a level up from where you are now – no one will be moved down.
Q: If I am in the Conservatory, will I be in classes with students who are not in ballet?
A: You will no longer be in a contemporary class with students who are not in ballet. Your ballet class will also be conservatory dancers only. Some of our jazz and all of our hip hop classes will still be mixed with conservatory and recreational dancers.
Q: Can I be in a different level for ballet than I am for contemporary?
A: Yes. It’s possible that you will be in Conservatory Contemporary B and Conservatory Ballet C (or any other combination of levels). We will tailor each student’s schedule to their specific needs based on how long they have trained in each genre. If you have spent more time in contemporary than ballet, we can plan your schedule accordingly.
Q: What level of Conservatory is BodyLanguage/FX in Motion?
A: Conservatory Level A is our BodyLanguage/FX in Motion company program. Once you progress through Conservatory Level C & B you will be eligible to move up to the Level A Conservatory Group.
