Discover the exhilarating world of Japanese taiko drumming—an art form that combines powerful rhythm, expressive movement, musical precision, and a deep sense of connection. Rooted in Japanese tradition, taiko is much more than drumming; it is a full-body practice that develops coordination, strength, focus, teamwork, and joyful self-expression while fostering a sense of community and spirit.
This introductory series is designed for students with no prior musical or drumming experience. You’ll learn fundamental taiko techniques, proper form, rhythm, and movement while building confidence on the drum. Throughout the course, you’ll put your new skills into practice by learning fun, energetic, and accessible taiko songs in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Classes are taught by Kristy “Aki” Oshiro, a professional taiko artist with over 30 years of experience performing, teaching, and composing. Aki has shared the art of taiko across the United States and internationally, bringing a passion for making this powerful art form accessible to students of all backgrounds.
Come experience the energy of the drum, the joy of making music together, and the transformative physical, musical, and spiritual practice of taiko.
