Breaking is a street dance that started in the 70’s. What separates breaking from hip-hop dance is that it is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature and breakers frequently engage in battles— informal freestyle dance competitions. Sessions and battles are usually performed in a cipher, a circular dance space. Our program teaches fundamental through advanced skills so that each dancer can perform at their own level. Breaking builds strength, rhythm, flexibility and balance.
Pop classes teach the fundamentals of hip-hop choreography, popular dance styles and rhythm to popular music from the 70s to current day. Each class integrates dance exploration play and games as well as memorized dance sequences. These classes introduce young children to the structure of participation in a dance class, body awareness, musicality and physical expression.
